PART 1: THE HEART OF YOUR GROUP

1. If your youth group were a song, what would the title be and why?

The song would be: “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. This is to challenge us to move from mere attendance to active discipleship.

2. Briefly introduce us to your community—what is the name of your parish, and what is the “vibe” of your youth group?

The name of my parish is St. Rita Catholic Church Unity Estate Mararaba, Lafia Diocese (The Digital Parish). It is called the Digital Parish because it is a cosmopolitan area. The youths in my parish are from elite homes and are elites too. The major challenge we have is that most parents do not allow their children to stay behind after Mass. They bundle them into their cars and drive them home. In fact, they drive them everywhere. It is even worse now because of the present insecurity challenges.

3. How would you describe the unique mission or “personality” of your youth group in three words?

Believing, Belonging, Becoming.

4. Tell us about your youth activities in the parish; what does a typical week or month look like for your members?

Our typical weekly programme is as follows:

1. Mondays to Thursdays – Morning Masses.
2. Fridays – Evening Mass followed by Faith Clinic. Faith Clinic is a spiritual activity that helps us dig deep into our faith and the Holy Bible.
3. Saturdays – Morning Mass, church/rectory cleaning, and sports.
4. Sundays – Holy Mass. Youths serve as Church Wardens, security personnel, lectors, choir members, etc. On the second Sunday of every month, we have a youth parish meeting. On the third Sunday of the month, we have Deanery meetings (bi-monthly).
5. Who is the “unsung hero” in your group, and how do they keep the spirit alive?

Bro. Kenechukwu Henry Mbanefo. This is because he is active in all programmes from parish to national level. He celebrates and supports everybody. In short, he is everywhere. He is the real MVP.

PART 2: FAITH IN ACTION

1. What is the most creative or fun way your group has explored the Catholic faith this year?

We organized and participated in a parish quiz competition.

2. What are some of the most interesting and impactful things your youth group has done recently?

We organized a medical outreach for the community and St. Vincent de Paul members.

3. Tell us about a time your group stepped outside the church walls to make a difference in your local community.

We carried out community drainage cleaning (clearing the gutters).

4. How do you integrate laughter, joy, and friendship into your spiritual gatherings?

By telling relatable stories and sharing ourselves into groups for discussion through interactive sessions.

5. Who would you like to give a special “shout-out” to in your community and why?

Bro. Kenechukwu Henry Mbanefo, for his selfless service.

PART 3: VISION & THE FUTURE

1. If you had an unlimited budget for one spiritual retreat or event for your members, what would it look like?

A Spiritual Retreat.
Title: Come Away and Renew Your Spirit.
It would be a one-day programme because most of our youths are hustlers. It would follow this format:

1. Holy Mass
2. Praise and Worship
3. Talk
4. Personal Reflection
5. Talent advertisement and showcasing
6. Eucharistic Adoration
7. Group Sharing
8. Confession
9. Networking
10. How has being part of this community changed your personal relationship with God?

It has strengthened my faith and helped me build a more personal relationship with God.

3. What are your biggest plans and goals for the future of your youth group?

Our goal is to build a vibrant, spiritually grounded, and empowered community where young people grow in faith, develop skills, discover talents, and make positive contributions to society. Financial freedom and stability are paramount because that is one major challenge we are facing. Most youths are hungry and are tempted by small incentives, and they fall. If you are busy and financially independent, you will be more focused.

4. If you could send a message of encouragement to other Catholic youths struggling to stay connected to their faith, what would it be?

Stay focused, stay positive, stay prayerful, and work smartly. God will surely crown your efforts.

5. In one sentence, why should every young person in your parish join your group?

Because it provides a supportive Catholic community where they can grow in faith and learn.
